Kent's biggest outdoor concerts for summer 2022 including Black Deer Festival, Leeds Castle Concert and Pub in the Park

From pop perfection at Pub in the Park to rock 'n' roll riffs at Mount Ephraim, there are some unmissable outdoor concerts coming up in Kent this summer.

SOUL

Get up offa that thing and head to the Soundcrash Funk and Soul Weekender. Fans can get their groove on at Dreamland, in Margate, from Friday, May 27 to Sunday, May 29.

The weekend will see performances from disco legends Sister Sledge, best known for hits We Are Family and He’s the Greatest Dancer, and influential funk godfather George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic. Other artists in the line-up include Gilles Peterson, Roy Ayers and Craig Charles.

DANCE

Making its debut on the festival scene this year is Dream Valley. This new immersive dance festival combines electronic music artists with interactive experiences to create a truly unique day of live entertainment.

Dream Valley, which has recently announced a venue change from Bexley’s Danson Park to Lydd Airport on Romney Marsh, takes place on Saturday, May 28 and is set to include an outdoor cinema, VIP garden, yoga workshops, wellbeing classes and a street food market. While the full list of musicians and DJs is yet to be announced, names appearing at the festival include Basement Jaxx, Idris Elba, Roger Sanchez and Charlie Hedges.

AMERICANA

The iconic Black Deer Festival is returning to Tunbridge Wells this June in the stunning Eridge Park. From Friday, June 17 to Sunday, June 19, some of the biggest artists in Americana, country and bluegrass music will be performing in the historic deer park.

Lightning Bolt singer-songwriter Jake Bugg is one of the names performing on the first day of the festival, while rock band Wilco are headlining on Saturday night and Grammy Award-winner Van Morrison is closing the festival on Sunday. The headliner for the Friday night is yet to be announced.

CHILLED CLASSICS

Cafe Mambo Ibiza Classics touches down in Kent this summer for a huge one-day festival to kick off the Jubilee bank holiday weekend in style. The star-studded line up bringing the music of the White Isle to Maidstone includes Judge Jules, Brandon Block and Lovely Laura.

POP ROCK

Kicking off a series of summer concerts at the Hop Farm, near Paddock Wood, are three huge British artists.

First up on Friday, June 17 is Simply Red, whose ‘80s hits - including Holding Back the Years and If You Don’t Know Me by Now - have seen the band sell more than 60 million albums worldwide.

Following on from Mick Hucknall and his bandmates is The Jam frontman Paul Weller. The Town Called Malice singer, who went onto form the Style Council and launch his own solo career, will be headlining the Hop Farm on Saturday, June 18.

Rounding off the weekend will be chart-topping four-piece Keane. The band, who all met at school in Tonbridge, will be returning to Kent this summer to headline this massive show on Sunday, June 19.

RETRO

Lose yourself in a night of nostalgia with some of the biggest hits in history. Grab your leg warmers, dust off your shell suit and get ready to relive the ‘80s at retro music concert Let’s Rock Kent.

Let’s Rock Kent takes place at Maidstone’s Mote Park on Saturday, July 3 and is packed with a line-up of renowned artists. Audiences can expect stellar performances from the likes of Wet Wet Wet, whose 1994 single Love Is All Around spent 15 weeks at No. 1, and trailblazing female pop group Bananarama.

POP

Food, drink and music festival Pub in the Park is serving up pints and pop stars this July in Tunbridge Wells.

Hosted in the town’s Dunorlan Park from Friday, July 8 to Sunday, July 10, the outdoor weekender boasts some of the UK’s most well-known performers. The line-up includes names such as former Spice Girl Melanie C, queen of the kitchen disco Sophie Ellis-Bextor, electronic group Faithless, ‘00s guitar band The Feeling and rapper Professor Green.

CLASSICAL

Leeds Castle Concert will return this year for an evening of classical music in the stunning castle grounds.

Swing orchestra Down for the Count will be opening the concert. The orchestra, who delighted crowds at last year's concert, will perform spectacular swing classics such as Sing, Sing, Sing and I’ve Got You Under My Skin to kick off the evening. More artists have yet to be announced for the concert, but visitors can also enjoy the Spitfire display and fireworks finale.

OPERA

Enjoy a night at the proms with one of the world’s most successful classical singers, Katherine Jenkins.

The multi-award winning artist will head to Maidstone on Saturday, July 23 for the Mote Park Proms. Performing alongside Katherine, who was honoured with an OBE in 2014, will be musical theatre group Collabro. The Britain’s Got Talent winners are best known for covering hits from shows such as Les Misérables and West Side Story.

FOLK

A staple of the Kent festival calendar is Broadstairs Folk Week, an annual music event hosted in multiple venues across the picturesque seaside town.

This year, the festival will take place from Friday, August 5 to Friday, August 12 and will feature more than 50 musicians - and the full line-up hasn’t even been announced yet! Folk fans visiting this August should also make time to stop off at Broadstairs’ sandy beach and seafront restaurants.

CLASSIC ROCK

Music fans from all over the county will be heading to Mount Ephraim Gardens, near Faversham, this August for three days of riffs and rock music.

A New Day Festival will bring together titans of classic rock, prog-rock and blues in the Kent countryside from Friday, August 19 to Sunday, August 21. British legends Jethro Tull, Dutch prog-rock band Focus and ‘70s glam rock group The Sweet are all festival headliners. Visitors can also enjoy unique ales, delicious food and beautiful gardens throughout the weekend.

SKA

What do you get when you combine the seaside and ska music? Skabour festival, of course.

Skabour, held in the Grand Burstin Hotel overlooking the Folkestone harbour, welcomes some of the best ska, reggae and dub artists for a weekend of live music from Friday, September 16 to Sunday, September 18. The line-up for this year is yet to be announced, but previous artists include the Neville Staple Band, Dawn Penn and SKABretta.
