The single was released as a non-album track in November of that year and sold more than 1 million copies upon its initial release, going on to become one of the UK’s most recognisable Christmas songs.

It beat Wizzard's I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday to the top spot and remained in the UK charts for nine weeks.

The band became a household name during the 1970s, achieving six No. 1 singles including Coz I Luv You and Skweeze Me Pleeze Me.

Frontman Noddy Holder left the group in 1992, leading to their eventual break-up after 26 years.

Earlier this year, the frontman’s wife Suzan revealed that he had been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in 2018 and has been battling with the illness ever since.

Currently, the only founding member of the band that still performs under the name Slade is guitarist Dave Hill.

The group will be joined at their Dreamland concert by Sons of the Seventies, a four-piece band that perform covers of ‘70s rock songs.

Slade will be at the Hall By the Sea on Thursday, December 21. You can book tickets online here.

Tickets cost £32.50, plus booking fees. Doors open at 7pm, last entry is at 10pm.
