He’s got the looks and the moves to die for and is also an all-round lovely bloke: there are three chances to catch Strictly’s Pasha Kovalev in Kent this year.

How much of the show do you put together yourself?

I do everything myself! I enjoy that part of the creative process, coming up with the ideas and the direction. I do a tour every year and every time it is a brand-new show. I see it as telling a story. The storyline is about things that people experience in everyday life. My main goal is for the audience to come our of the theatre hopefully inspired, definitely recharged and with more positive energy.

Your show is with your dance partner, Anya Garnis

I have known Anya for 15 years. We work well together – we have to, as we do 74 shows a year. We started the show last summer – working six days a week eight hours a day, we have to get on!

How do you manage to keep yourself from getting injured with such a gruelling schedule?

I have been a trained dancer and have been doing this quite a long time, so you are conditioned to take the pressure physically. You have to look after yourself, eat well, rest enough. But you have the connection with the audience, so you get back the positive energy from them when they are enjoying it. When they are happy, it recharges you and gives you energy.

How do you relax after a show?

After the show you are on such a high, you are just powered up. It can take a while. But then you need your sleep.

You’ve got quite a good record on Strictly – you’re the most successful professional to date. How does that make you feel?

Am I? I didn’t know all that. Before the first show each year you are nervous, but it is exciting. You are trying to figure out who you will be paired with. We don’t know – whatever anyone tells you, we definitely don’t know. You do the big number at the beginning of the first show when you are all mixed up; maybe you can see some people dance better with others, but that’s all. The great thing about my tour is that most people don’t have access to the live Strictly shows, but they can come and see this.

Tell us about your partners on Strictly

Last year Carol (Kirkwood) was so lovely. Caroline (Flack) worked very hard and was quite talented. In the last few weeks she really excelled and really went for it. She had some things going on with her life that we had to work around, but we managed.

You choreograph your dances on Strictly yourself, too, don’t you?

The important thing with Strictly is to showcase the person in the best light. You have to consider which moves and which lifts will be best for them. You need to show the audience at home that the celebrity is improving. You need to show some sort of progression and that they look good doing it.

THE SHOW

He’s the most successful Strictly Come Dancing professional in the show’s history.

Pasha Kovalev, the winner of Strictly Come Dancing 2014, when he won with Caroline Flack, holds the record for the most 10s ever awarded (he has 61) and the record for the most perfect scores (eight) and has reached the final three times – as the runner-up in Series 9 and 10 and the winner in Series 12. He also met his current partner off the dancefloor, Countdown’s Rachel Riley, when they were partners on the show in 2013.

Now on his fifth UK tour, the Pasha Kovalev Show, It’s All About You, features music, dancing, energy, lights and sparkling costumes.

It features his long-time dance partner, Anya Garnis, and guest Ricky Rojas, who has toured the UK with Grease and Putting On The Ritz.
