Redhill Estate in Wateringbury, Kent, launches virtual wine tastings in lockdown

A Kent vineyard is launching virtual wine tasting evenings during lockdown.

The themed evenings are being launched tomorrow by Wateringbury-based Redhill Estate, which has 27,000 vines making predominately red wine.

The company usually supplies top London restaurants and sells from its up-cycled horse box bars at Kings Cross’s Granary Square and Battersea Power Station’s River Walk.

But during lockdown has turned to the virtual tastings as a way of staying in touch with customers. They will be themed and will include updates on what is happening in the winery and vineyard, as well as covering some basic wine tasting ‘moves.’

The first is tomorrow and is a one-hour live stream event. It costs £50 and includes three bottles of wine, which can be reduced by 15% if visitors sign up using the pop-up on the website.

They can either be collected from the drive through wine shop or delivered.

Each tasting will include a different set of wines. Others will be held on Thursday, May 14, Thursday, May 21 and Thursday, May 28.

Director Henry Boorman added: "Before the tasting, we will email the details for the live stream discussion - I think we are going to also have a competition too for the best pyjamas."

Two of the wines the vineyard produced received two awards at the Independent English Wine Awards, which was the first time Redhill had entered three wines to a competition.

The estate is also looking for volunteers for help in the vineyard and winery. If you are interested, write to volunteer@redhillestate.com.
