Feel-good classic movies to be shown this summer at the King's Hall, Herne Bay

A series of feel-good classic movies and family favourites are to be shown through the summer holidays.

Dirty Dancing, The Goonies and Back To The Future kick off the series at the King’s Hall in Herne Bay after they were chosen from a public vote on Facebook.

Social distancing will be in force as seats will be limited to 64 per screening but people will be able to book bubbles of two and four people.

During the school holidays, a film for the kids will be screened during the day with a family-friendly film in the evening.

The schedule starts on Thursday, July 23 with Dirty Dancing at 6.30pm, followed by The Goonies on Thursday, July 30 at 6.30pm

Shrek follows at 2.30pm on Thursday, August 6 and Back To The Future is later in the day at 6.30pm

Ice Age will be shown at 2,30pm on - Thursday, August 13 and Men In Black will be screened later that day at 6.30pm.

Matilda will be on Friday, August 21 at 2.30pm, followed by Speed at 6.30pm, while on the final day, Thursday, August 30, Kung Fu Panda will be screened at 2.30pm and the finale will be shown at 6.30pm - but the choice will be decided by a public vote.

Caroline Cooper, head of commercial and cultural development, said: “Great Scott, you’ll have the time of your life now that cinema is back at the King’s Hall.

“Just like The Goonies, the staff at the King’s Hall have said 'never say die' and have been determined to ensure the venue in Herne Bay is safe so you can sit back and relax while watching a series of classics that are classics for a very good reason.”

Tickets are £6 for up to two people from the same household and £12 for a bubble for up to four people from the same household plus a booking fee.

Refreshments will be available.

The hall has hosted a number of free live gigs online featuring local bands and artists including David Shepherd and The Smokin Mavericks, with Kai Hoffman live with her band tonight at 7pm. The venue hopes to host socially-distanced live gigs when regulations allow.
