Dragons and Mythical Beasts brings to life a host of legendary creatures, such as larger-than-life trolls, breathtaking unicorns and mischievous fairies, using spellbinding puppetry.

Written by theatre director Derek Bond, who has previously worked on productions such as Sweet Charity, Little Shop of Horrors and Shakespeare’s As You Like It, the show is currently touring the UK fresh off its London run.

During its time on the West End, the production was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Family Show.

The touring production sees Ben Galpin take on the role of Dave, the hero trainer who comes face-to-face with these extraordinary creatures, joined by a team of expert puppeteers who help bring the stage show to life.

One member of the team is co-director Laura Cubitt, whose previous work includes the show-stopping stage production of War Horse, which is well-known for its amazing use of life-like animal puppets.

Directors Laura and Derek are supported by associate director Emma Brunton, assistant director Nicky Allpress and puppet designer Max Humphries, whose impressive CVs include the National Theatre, Royal Opera House and Cirque du Soleil.

While it is a family show, similar to the team's Dinosaur World Live production which recently visited venues in Margate and Tunbridge Wells, some of the beasts can live up to their name and might give very young children a fright.

However, generally the show prides itself on being family-friendly and is recommended for ages three and above.

This stunning production is just one of several childrens’ shows coming up at the theatre, with Hey Duggee, Demon Dentist and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory all set to visit next year.
