Leave your beer goggles behind and get your scientific brain in gear.

The wonders of our solar system, the history of our universe and robots which could improve your life are all on the table at pubs in Kent next week. The Pint of Science festival brings some educational conversation, over a pint or two.

On Tuesday, May 16, the Northern Seaman in Rochester High Street holds an event looking at the creation, transit and impact of stars, planets and meteorites, from 7pm.

The evening will cover three presentations all about space. There will be a look back into the history of astronomy, with a 19th century expedition to Honolulu to measure the Transit of Venus. It will also highlight meteorite impacts on planets, including Earth.

The part robots play in our lives is up for discussion on Wednesday, May 17, at the Jolly Sailor in Northgate, Canterbury, from 7pm.

The evening will include a debate about artificial intelligence and whether there are areas you don’t want to see robots venture into.

There will also be a look at faces: how different people recognise different faces, and how effective technology is in doing this, such as at passport control. There will also be talk on how social communication varies at different ages and how associated brain activity changes between the generations.
