Kent's best pub gardens:The Chequers, Laddingford, near Yalding

The Chequers, Laddingford, near Yalding

In the heart of Kent's hopping countryside, this 15th century drinking hole has an uncontrived, green garden. To one side of the neat rows of tables is a children's climbing frame and on the other are grazing ponies in a fenced enclosure.

A vine covered pergola leads punters back into the pub, via a gazebo.

Impressive at any time of year, the garden is at its best on a sunny spring day with the blossom in full bloom. It's also fully enclosed, so great for mums and dads as the kids are never too far away.

The beers not bad either - the Chequers is in the CAMRA Good Pub Guide 2015.

At the front of the pub is a pleasant terrace, decorated by the pub's colourful array of window boxes and hangig baskets.
