Directed by Kylie Minogue’s creative director and starring Sam Buttery from The Voice, the latest hit show from London’s West End – Viva la Drag! – is coming to the county.

Described by producer Michael Taylor as “the ultimate girls’ night out – with added extras,” the lavish production promises a rollicking night of cross-dressing comedy and musical theatre.

“It’s an outrageous party night out to die for, packing in more hit songs than any other production,” said Michael.

Classic hits are combined with today’s chart toppers: Single Ladies, Stop in the Name of Love, Car Wash, Get Lucky, Rolling in the Deep, Jolene, Crazy in Love and Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.

The plot charts the rise from rags to the queens of drag of a close harmony group with a difference.

The ‘girl’ group’s razor-tongued manager, played by Sheila Simmonds, navigates splits and hits against a backdrop of backstabbing, love and tears.

Michael added: “It’s an evening of glitz, hits, dance and kitsch boasting a real musical pedigree.”

What’s more, the choreography is slick, the lavish costumes and the heels death-defying.

Musical direction is from John Themis, songwriter of hits by the Sugarbabes, Emma Bunton and Kylie.

Vocals are by Terry Ronald, arranger to Girls Aloud and Danni Minogue; costume design is by Stevie Stewart, whose work features on Kylie’s famed world tours and choreography is by Ashley Wallen, whose credits include West End hits Rent and Ghost the Musical.

Michael said: “Sweet harmonies, costumes to die for, a score packed with more hits than you can bat a pair of oversize lashes at, thrilling cutting-edge variety and ripped male eye-candy could make Viva la Drag! the party night out of the year.”

One thing is for sure, at the end of the night you’re be singing along with Vicki Vivacious, Vanilla Lush, Portia De Fosse and Silver Summers.

Viva la Drag! is at Margate Winter Gardens on Thursday, November 21. It is suitable for over-16s only. Tickets £20, concessions £18. Book at www.margatewinter gardens.co.uk

The show will also be at three other Kent venues in 2014 – the Assembly Hall Theatre, Tunbridge Wells on Saturday, March 29; the Orchard Theatre, Dartford on Thursday, April 10 and Canterbury’s Marlowe Theatre on Saturday, June 14.
