Trapped window cleaner rescued by firefighters

FIREFIGHTERS were called to rescue a window cleaner trapped on a third-storey ledge after a sash fell onto his fingers, preventing him from getting back inside the building.

A crowd gathered to watch as a fire crew extended a ladder to reach the man who was unable to move from his precarious position.

The mini-drama unfolded in Bedford Terrace at Tunbridge Wells - a row of tall town houses close to the historic Pantiles.

A fire service spokesman said: " The sash had fallen out of its runners and it took about 10 minutes to prise it free with a crowbar.

"The window cleaner suffered a blackened nail and bruising to his fingers, but was otherwise none the worse for his ordeal. We did advise him to seek medical treatment for the injuries to his hands."

The man, who was clearly embarrassed by his misfortune, has not been named.
