Tunbridge Wells: Appeal after woman reportely raped after being approached in Mount Pleasant Road

A teenager has been arrested after reports than a woman was raped in a town centre alleyway.

The victim said she had been approached in Mount Pleasant Road, Tunbridge Wells by a man she didn’t know at around 2am today. The woman asked him to go away after he initiated a conversation.

The victim was walked to Camden Road by two passers-by, where she continued on her own, but saw the man again. She reported that she was then raped by the man in an alleyway.

The incident is believed to have happened close to Camden Road and Albion Road. Police attended an 18-year-old man was arrested shortly after. He remains in custody.

Officers are continuing to make enquiries, including reviewing CCTV opportunities and are now also appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Inspector Geoff Payne said: "We want to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious between the hours of 1am and 2am. We believe a number of witnesses could hold important information, including a taxi driver who may have stopped in Camden Road and spoken to the victim"

"We would also particularly like to speak two men, who before the incident, came forward to offer assistance to the victim and walked with her. If you can help and haven’t already been in touch please don’t hesitate call us."
