It wasn't only camouflage make-up that made this soldier the greenest contestant in the Miss England competition.

Lance corporal Katrina Hodge, 21, from High Brooms, near Tunbridge Wells, is Miss Tunbridge Wells.

But her hopes of being crowned Miss England were dashed last Friday.

She was, though, crowned Miss Eco Girl at the event because of her handiwork in the ethical dress round.

All the contests had to choose a method of dressing that re-used and recycled wherever possible and LCpl Hodge wowed the judges with a dress she made herself.

Had she won, LCpl Hodge would have used the fame to make the public more aware of the work of the Armed Forces and their charities.
