Huawei sex gang boss to pay back £1 after Tunbridge Wells brothel makes £550,000

The boss of a sex gang which posed as Huawei workers to set up a network of brothels will pay back £1 despite just one of the businesses netting £550,000.

Dongning Zhang was part of a Chinese gang who tricked estate agents into letting them rent properties in Tunbridge Wells, one of which made the organisation more than half a million.

He previously admitted money laundering and running brothels and was jailed for four years and three months but the court heard he now has no assets.

If he doesn't pay the pound he'll face another week behind bars.

Zhang's partner Shuangyan Hu, 37, is to repay £6,160 despite pocketing £150,000.

They posed as employees of Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei to set up the network in Kent, London, Essex and London using fake names.

Hu, from Harrow, was also convicted of money laundering and faces another four months if she doesn't pay up by November 22. The court heard she wants to return to China after serving her 42-month jail sentence.

Prosecutor Alan Gardner had told the trial that the gang had "a number of sex workers at their disposal, who would frequently change location."

Police found £1,000 in cash and a woman "scantily dressed in a cheerleading outfit" when they raided one flat in Lime Hill Road, Tunbridge Wells, the court heard.

Kai Shao, of Millwall, south-east London, who earned only £300 a week as cook and cleaner at the brothels will have to repay £,1519.42 or face another two weeks in prison.

He was jailed for 20 months and is now facing being kicked out of the UK.
