Tunbridge Wells new primary school Skinners Kent Primary School appoints Matt Topliss as new headteacher

A new primary school in Tunbridge Wells has officially appointed a headteacher.

The school, which will open in September, is a collaboration of The Skinners' School and The Skinners' Kent Academy.

It is being sponsored by the Skinners' School Foundation and will run in partnership with Oakley School.

Matt Topliss, vice principal at the Skinners' Kent Academy in Tunbridge Wells, will be the school's headteacher.

He will also fill the role of chief academic office.

Skinners' Kent Primary School intends to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) alongside the National Curriculum.

The purpose built school will include a new main building with a sports hall, all weather pitch, playgrounds, games courts and parkland play area.

The grounds are a few minutes walk from the new Knights Wood housing development which is bringing over 500 new homes to the area.

Oakley School will lead a satellite unit offering inclusive provision for pupils with special educational needs, with a focus on children with autism.

When it opens, the new school will have 30 places in the Reception class and 15 places in year 1.

There will be a phased programme of growth to a capacity of 210 pupils across seven classes.

Sian Carr, who is executive principal at Skinners' Kent Academy, will now be executive principal across both academies.

Gemma Faircloth, will become assistant principal. She is currently assistant head at Trinity C of E Primary School, Hither Green.

Emma-Louise Hawthorn, will become the early years reception class teacher. She has been on placement with Claremont Primary school since October 2014.

Skinners' Kent Primary School will educate boys and girls aged 4 to 11 and will open with a capacity for 30 pupils in Year R and 15 students in Year 1.
