Land at Bayham Sports Field West has been allocated in the borough's pre-submission Local Plan to accommodate 20 to 25 homes, of which 40 percent will be affordable. But the council says it will not sell the land until a suitable alternative playing field is found. It has its sights on creating a new "sports hub"at Hawkenbury, with proceeds from the sale going towards its creation.

The playing field lies adjacent to a designated Local Wildlife Site, part of which extends into the plot.

Access to the new homes once constructed would be via Bayham Road, the B2169.

The policy reference in the council's Local Plan is AL/RTW 22.

The Bayham Sports Field is just one of a large number of sites earmarked for development.

The public have 10 weeks to give their views. The Pre-Submission Local Plan and supporting documents can be viewed on the council’s website.
