Driver bailed after court appearance over death of Stephen Hilder in Chapman Way, Tunbridge Wells

A man charged with causing death by dangerous driving has been released on bail.

David Smith appeared at Sevenoaks Magistrates Court today charged with killing Stephen Hilder by driving a Land Rover Freelander dangerously in Chapman Way, Tunbridge Wells, on January 4.

Mr Smith, of Henwoods Mount, Pembury, spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth.

The 55-year-old entered no plea and Gill Fryzer, chair of the magistrates’ bench, sent the case to Maidstone Crown Court for trial.

Mr Smith will appear at the crown court on January 14, for now he remains on unconditional bail.
