Tunbridge Wells: Bin collections may be delayed after fire at North Farm tip

Residents are being warned their bin collections may be delayed today following a fire at a tip.

The problem is affecting all refuse and recycling collections made by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council today.

It follows a fire that ripped through North Farm Waste Recycling Centre in Dowding Way on Saturday.

It remains closed today for structural surveys to be carried out and residents are advised to use Sevenoaks Household Waste Recycling Centre in Dunbrik in the meantime.

Nobody was injured in the fire and service will be resumed as soon as practicable.

A message on Tunbridge Wells Borough Council's website said: "All collections that are due on Monday, including clinical and bulky waste collections, will take place but may be delayed by a few hours.

"As this may not affect all rounds please still have your bin out at 7am as usual.

"Please only report a missed bin if only your bin in the road is missed."

The blaze started in the bulky waste bay shortly after 8am after mattresses and other household waste caught alight.

Residents were asked to keep their windows closed, and thick black smoke could be seen billowing from the site.

The fire started accidentally.
