Tonbridge Angels manager Steve McKimm cracking on with the next challenge after big win over Braintree

Steve McKimm has called on Tonbridge to build on their sparkling victory over Braintree.

Angels turned the National South form book on its head last weekend with a 5-1 victory over an Iron side who'd won five of their last six games.

Boss McKimm enjoyed the moment but thoughts soon turned to this Saturday's home game against Chelmsford.

He said: "It's gone now. We have to look forward.

"With the form Braintree were in, they didn't do Glen (Driver, manager) justice but saying that we nullified them because we knew what they were going to do.

"The boys did everything we asked them to do, they took their chances and defended resolutely when they needed to.

"I felt a result had been coming, because we'd not been playing that badly, but to top it off with five goals was something I didn't see coming.

"All credit to the lads but it's about building on that now.

"It's given them the vision that they can do it and can continue to do it.

"Chelmsford is another test and we've got to get back to it, continue pushing forward and trying to pick up points, whether it's one or three."

Victory moved Tonbridge up two places to 19th while weekend opponents Chelmsford, play-off regulars in the past few years, sit 13th after a mixed start to the season.

McKimm said: "Rod Stringer (City boss) will change things as and when he sees fit.

"Chelmsford have been a bit inconsistent but they've got experienced players at this level and above at their disposal and when they've won, they've won comfortably.

"He just needs to get them firing every game.

"I'm sure they will be up there because they've been in the play-offs the last four years.

"I listened to an interview with him and he said you don't become a bad manager overnight.

"He'll work hard to get it right."

Tonbridge handed a debut to Ivory Coast youth international Christ Tiehi against Braintree.

The midfielder signed from Woking and was introduced as a second-half substitute.

McKimm said: "He got a bit excited at first and picked up a booking but he settled down, broke things up and played it simple."

Angels are chasing another new signing, with McKimm adding: "We put seven days in for someone on Monday.

"We'll have to see if I need to wait to speak to him but I think it could be positive."
