Tonbridge Angels manager Steve McKimm keen to make sure of fourth spot

Tonbridge are safely in the play-offs – it just remains to be seen who they will face.

Angels will be away in a one-legged semi-final on Thursday (7.45pm), with Hampton, East Thurrock or Bognor Regis their possible opponents.

If they get through, they’ll be away in the final on Monday, May 2.

Angels complete the regular Ryman League Premier Division season at Burgess Hill on Saturday, needing a point to clinch fourth place.

They made sure of a play-off place with Nathan Elder’s double and a goal from triple player-of-the-season winner Nick Wheeler in a 3-2 home win over Merstham last weekend.

Boss Steve McKimm said: “There might be a couple of people rested but we can’t take the game too lightly because we want to finish fourth. If we lose and Dulwich win by a few goals, we could still end up fifth and we don’t want that.

“There’s all sort of permutations but the main thing is we know we’re in the play-offs, whoever we play, which is a massive achievement.

“Everyone in those play-offs has a chance, regardless of how the results went against each other in the season.

“It’s all about what happens on the night. Nerves might kick in for a few people but you look to your experienced lads to help the younger ones through.”

Wheeler won all three awards at Angels’ presentation do after the Merstham game.

The winger was named supporters’ player-of-the-year, manager’s player-of-the-year and players’ player-of-the-year.
