Tonbridge boss Steve McKimm is hoping to avoid an upset against Phoenix Sports in the FA Trophy

The fixtures are stacking up for Tonbridge, but that hasn’t dampened Steve McKimm’s appetite for an FA Trophy run – starting this weekend.

Angels are away to Phoenix Sports in the first qualifying round on Saturday, hoping to avoid an upset against the Southern Counties East League champions.

McKimm’s side are sixth in the Ryman League Premier Division and they’ve played fewer games than all the sides around them.

McKimm said: “We’ve got quite a few games to catch up on because we’ve only played 14 and everyone else has played 18 or 19, so we need a run of league games.

“It’s been very stop-start, but we’ve got to do the best we can in every competition, whether that’s in the league or the cup.

“We’ve got Phoenix and we’ll do all the preparation we normally do for a league game. We’ll pick a decent side to go out and hopefully get a result.

“We want to go as far as we can and earn as much money as we can for the club.”

Tonbridge will bank £2,700 in prize money if they beat a Phoenix side sitting ninth in Ryman League Division 1 North.
