McDermot leads Tonbridge to team prize

Deidre McDermot led Tonbridge AC to team success in the third Kent Women’s cross country league race of the season at Knole Park, Sevenoaks on Saturday.

McDermot returned to winning form following her victory in the opening round at Capstone Park to lead the series overall with one race remaining.

The margin of victory was comfortable at 67 seconds from current champion Helena Penfold of Medway and Maidstone, who now drop out of contention in the team race after failing to finish three runners at Sevenoaks.

Jennie Butler (W35) of Blackheath and Bromley Harriers was third ahead of leading master athlete, Helen Wheeler (W40) of Folkestone Road Runners. Elaine Murty of Blackheath was fifth ahead of W35 Cara Oliver, who led Dartford Harriers to second team place behind Tonbridge and ahead of Folkestone.

The final positions will be decided at the league final at Parkwood School, Swanley on February 14
