He also won the goal-of-the-season vote after his stunning volley against Maidstone on Boxing Day.

Higgs is one of five players Angels are speaking to regarding new deals after announcing their retained list.

The others are Ryan Hanson, Tariq Hinds, Lewis Gard and Jamie Fielding.

Mo Dabre, Hayden Velvick and Joe Tyrie have joined Scott Wagstaff and manager’s player-of-the-year Sean Shields in committing to Angels for next season.

Goalkeeper Jonny Henly’s departure had already been announced - he’s since joined Folkestone - while Jernade Meade, Josh Popoola and Ansu Janneh have also been released.

Henly was back at Longmead on Friday night to collect a long-service award, having made more than 300 appearances during a seven-year stay.

Loanees Ethan Sutcliffe and top scorer Nathan Odokonyero have returned to AFC Wimbledon and Ebbsfleet respectively.
