Thug's bid to snatch driver's sunglasses

A 44-year-old woman shopper was assaulted by a man who tried to rip her sunglasses from her face as she drove out of a supermarket car park in Tonbridge.

The woman, from Gillingham, drove out of Somerfield's car park and stopped at the junction of New Wharf Road and High Street when a man walked out in front of her car.

She was aware of the man saying something inaudible, and then in the next moment he approached the car and reached inside.

He grabbed at her sunglasses, scratching her cheek. He then walked off along the high street towards the railway station, possibly going into Somerfield supermarket.

West Kent Police has appealed for further information about the incident which happened at about 10am on Thursday, August 19.

PC Jason Andrews, of West Kent Police, said: "The woman driver was not badly hurt but she was shaken by the incident. We would like to identify this man and would be grateful if anyone with information can contact us."

The medium-built man was white and about 35 years old. He was wearing a white t-shirt and blue jogging trousers.

He was with two or three teenage girls, one of whom is believed to have called him "Dad".

PC Andrews can be contacted on 01732 370732 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
