Staff flee as robbers grab building society cash

TWO robbers today carried out a daylight raid on the Woolwich Building Society in the high street at Tonbridge.

One of them burst into the branch just before noon and grabbed the money from a till drawer while a second man acted as a look-out at the door.

They were unarmed and made no threats. They escaped with an as yet unconfirmed amount of cash. No one was harmed.

One witness said that staff fled into a rear office during the raid. Police said the robbers were both in their late teens or early twenties.

One of the men is believed to be dark-skinned, about 5ft and 7ins tall and was wearing a white top and dark trousers. He had a thin moustache. The other man was stocky and wearing tracksuit bottoms, a dark hat and a dark top.

Anyone with information about the crime should contact West Kent Police on 01732 370732 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
