Police arrest 'runaway' paedophile

KENT police have arrested a man who disappeared during his trial on serious sex abuse charges.

Paul Thomas Goldsmith had been unanimously convicted of seven charges of rape in relation to one girl and two of rape, three of sexual assault and one of indecent assault in relation to another.

Goldsmith, 38, was detained shortly before midnight on Tuesday. He will remain in

in custody until July 28 when he will be sentenced.

The public's help in tracing Goldsmith, of Somerhill Road, Tonbridge, had been sought after he failed to appear at the crown court. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

The judge had warned before Goldsmith vanished that a jail sentence in double figures was likely to be imposed.
