Girl struck by bus airlifted to hospital

A 13-year-old girl from Tunbridge Wells suffered serious leg injuries today when she was in collision with a bus in Pembury Road, Tonbridge.

The accident happened close to the town's police station and caused major traffic delays.

The girl was flown to Maidstone Hospital for treatment by Kent Air Ambulance. The helicopter landed on a nearby school playing field.

Paramedics placed her on a spinal board and treated her en route during the five-minute flight to the hospital.

The accident happened at about 8.20am. The road was reopened in one direction shortly after 11.30am.

PC Ed Kavanagh said: “We would urge anyone who witnessed the incident, and has not yet contacted us, to do so. We are grateful to those people who have already come forward."
