Tonbridge drink-driving mum got behind wheel of Mini Cooper and was found with cannabis after being pulled over in Hadlow

A woman who rowed with her husband got into her car and drove while over the legal limit and was found with a small amount of cannabis on her.

Sophie Eastwood, 33, was also child free on the evening she decided to have a few drinks and get into her Mini Cooper and drive it while over the limit near her home in Tonbridge.

When officers spotted her behind the wheel on November 25 last year in Court Lane, Hadlow, where she lives, they asked her to stop.

She was given a breath test which proved positive and when officers arrested her on suspicion of drink-driving they also found a small amount of cannabis in her possession.

Eastwood was charged with drink-driving and being in possession of a Class B drug and admitted both offences when she appeared before magistrates in Maidstone on January 3.

Debbie Jones, prosecuting, said: "When officers spoke to her she stopped and was given a roadside breath test which was positive.

"She made full admissions to police and told them she thought she was OK to drive. She's of previous good character."

Magistrates were also told when she did the breath test, Eastwood gave a reading of 51 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Defending herself, Eastwood told the bench she was very sorry for getting in the car but had decided to do so to diffuse the situation between her and her husband after they rowed.

She added: "I've been under intense stress for the past eight months. I was child free and had had an argument with my husband.

"I had turned around and was going home.

"Spending the night in the cells was very scary and I was alone and petrified. I barely drink.

"I am sorry and remorseful. It will never happen again and I am trying to be a better person."

Magistrates did not hear any more about why Eastwood had been in possession of cannabis when she was pulled over.

The bench decided to ban Eastwood from driving for 12 months and fined her £120.

She was also fined £80 for the cannabis offence and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £80 and £85 costs.

If Eastwood completes a drink-driving course, her ban will be reduced by a quarter.
