Ramsgate boss Steve Lovell says his Isthmian South East leaders are yet to put in a 90-minute performance

Manager Steve Lovell says there’s plenty more to come from league leaders Ramsgate.

Unbeaten Rams have won five of their six games to sit three points clear of Beckenham at the top of Isthmian South East.

It’s a good start by anyone’s standards but, perhaps ominously for the rest of the division, Lovell’s side are still to truly fire.

“It’s going OK but, like I said to the players the other day, I think there’s a lot more to come from us,” said Lovell.

“We’re still in a position where we haven’t really performed to the best we can do.

“I know we’ve had five wins and a draw but I still feel there’s a heck of a lot more to come.

“I look at it and I’ve not been able to name the same team twice, with injuries and suspensions and people away, and that’s where it’s good that we’ve had the squad to fall back on.

“When I say there’s a lot more to come, we haven’t had a really good 90-minute performance.

“We’ve had a good 45 in each game, which is weird, really, but that’s the way it’s panned out.

“There’s parts of our game I’m happy with and parts I’m not happy with but I don’t think over a whole 90 minutes we’ve performed as a group the way we can.

“The players know that and it’s important we get that.

“There’s going to come a time when that happens and hopefully we can build on that.”

Ramsgate are set to mix up their team at home to Hythe in the Velocity Trophy tonight (Wednesday) before returning to league action at VCD on Saturday.

The Vickers have also started well, sitting just outside the play-offs after six games.

“They’re a good side, it’s a very tough league this season,” said Lovell.

“We’ve played two of the teams down the bottom in the last couple of weeks in Lancing and Faversham and they both played really well and gave us some problems.

“When you’re top of the league, everybody wants to beat you. We’ve got to be prepared for that and make sure we’re ready for the battle.”

Lovell, meanwhile, has praised chairman James Lawson after Ramsgate secured ownership of their Southwood home ground from Thanet Council.

The council agreed to sell the freehold for £265,000, in what’s been described by the club as a huge stride in their ambition to build a new stand incorporating an enterprise and education centre.

“I’m really pleased for the chairman, he’s put a lot of time and effort into building the club up into a community club,” said Lovell.

“He spoke about the development and what he’d like to do with the club to push it forward when I came here.

“The freehold was something he was hoping he would get, he’s worked really hard on it.

“The club’s helping people in the area and if you get them involved in the football and the team’s doing well, it’s good for everyone.

“You’ve got to plan it and it’s got to be done in stages and you take each stage as it comes.

“For now, we’re concentrating on this year and hopefully we’ll progress.”
