Losing her own beautiful hair to help others has left young Medine Bilgen light-headed and inspired on a mission to help others.

Birchington Primary School pupil Medine, 10, went for the big chop in aid of the Little Princess Trust.

She raised £300 for the charity which will use her thick dark tresses hair to provide custom made wigs for other children who lose their hair to illness.

Medine, of Stone Barn Avenue, Birchington, had her plaited in order to keep it together when it was cut off locally at Funky Divas Hair Studio.

She had been growing her hair since she was six and it was long enough for her to sit on, so was understandably a bit worried at first. Her hair proved so thick that cutting it off proved challenging for hairdresser Beverley Potter.

Medine now has a shoulder length cut - following extensive deliberations with her best friend Chloe.

Her verdict: “I love it!”

She is now determined to continue supporting good causes although she has not yet decided “who”, “what” and “when” for her next effort.

Her mum Denise said: “We are so proud of her, it is so nice that at that age she is thinking of someone else.

“She is enjoying being lighter, her hair was so heavy, and I am enjoying not having to spend an hour each time drying it when it is washed, now Medine can do it herself. I like her new hair too, it looks a lot more grown up.”

Medine originally decided to have her hair cut off due to empathy for her grandmother who has the hair loss condition alopecia.
