Artist Willi Dorner is looking for people to step up and take part in an event to mark the opening of the Turner Contemporary in April

Excitement is building as the April 16 opening of the long-awaited Turner Contemporary gets closer – and you could be one of the attractions in the You Are Here 10-day launch programme.

If you are fairly flexible physically, and would like to be part of an unusual art event, Austrian choreographer Willi Dorner has a role for you.

Bodies in Urban Spaces will take place in Margate on April 16-17.

Working closely with Willi and his dancers, you will become part of buildings in Margate.

Volunteers will be positioned in selected spots around the town, such as doorways and phone boxes, to create striking images and, says Willi, give participants a stronger relationship with their neighbourhood.

To take part and for full details, contact Sepake Angiama at the gallery by emailing onsangiama@turnercontemporary.org or by phoning 01843 233000.

Or maybe you would like to join Orlando Gough and his Big Sing. Turner Contemporary and Thanet District Council have teamed up to bring local singers together with composer Mr Gough and music director Tony Castro.

Mr Castro will lead weekly rehearsals, introducing participants to a wide range of modern music, and preparing them to sing in a live performance at Turner Contemporary on Saturday, April 23. It is hoped that the group will continue to sing together after this as a permanent singing choir that specialises in modern music.

To take part and for full details, contact Heather Sawney, arts development officer at Thanet District Council, by emailing heather.sawney@thanet.gov.uk or by phoning 01843 577428.

You are Here is a 10-day programme of public events from April 16 to April 25 to celebrate and launch the opening of Turner Contemporary.

The gallery’s opening exhibition, Revealed: Turner Contemporary Opens, will feature six major international artists, including three important new commissions.
