Marine Terrace in Margate sealed off by SGN 'for everyone's safety' due to gas leak

A road taking motorists into the centre of a Kent town has been closed for emergency work to the gas network.

SGN says it has sealed off Marine Terrace in Margate in both directions today "for everyone's safety", as it carries out the repairs outside amusement park Dreamland.

A spokesman for the firm insists staff will be "working around the clock" to rectify the issue – but stresses it is too early to know when the road will be reopened.

The official said: "We're carrying out emergency repairs to our gas main in Marine Terrace, just outside Dreamland on the seafront.

"For everyone's safety, we need to temporarily close the road both ways.

"It's too early to say how long our repairs will take to complete at this stage, but we'll be working around the clock and through the night to complete our work as quickly as possible."

A diversion will be in place directing motorists along Belgrave Road, Ramsgate Road, Margate Road, Park Road, the A299 Canterbury Road and the A28.
