Seaside is still the tops!

A trip to the seaside is still the top choice for a day out, according to a new survey.

Independent market research company, Local Opinion, surveyed 632 residents in the county to find out where in Kent they love to visit.

Coming out on top was the coastline, as 24.6 per cent of those surveyed said they would choose a day at a seaside resort as their first choice of destination.

After that, the most popular attractions were Leeds Castle, with 12.9 per cent, Bluewater with 7.2 per cent, Bedgebury Pinetum, near Goudhurst, with 6.7 per cent, Howletts Wild Animal Park with 6.2 per cent and Port Lympne Wild Animal Park with 5.5 per cent.

A visit to one of Kent’s National Trust houses, such as Chartwell in Westerham or Ightham Mote, was the first choice of 6.5 per cent of respondents, 3 per cent chose Dover Castle, 2.2 per cent Bewl Water near Lamberhurst, 2 per cent Chatham Historic Dockyard and 2 per cent would rather visit Wildwood animal park at Herne Bay.

Canterbury Cathedral, Kent’s only World Heritage site, and one of the UK’s top 10 tourism destinations, was the first choice of just 1.7 per cent of Kent residents.
