The Square, Birchington, closed after police car crash

A woman in her 80s was taken to hospital after a police car collided with another vehicle.

The accident, which happened outside the North Thanet Conservative Association building in The Square, Birchington, shut the A28 in both directions.

It happened at 11.25am.

A member of staff from the nearby Cow Shed Bar & Grill said the police were at the scene before she arrived at work at midday.

She added: “I believe the road is still closed because of a crash.

“Police are still at the scene and it looks like there is an investigation happening.

“I don’t know if anyone was hurt or not but I haven’t seen an ambulance turn up or anything like that.”

A police spokesman said: At 11.25am, a Kent Police car was involved in a collision with another vehicle in Canterbury Road, Birchington.

“Minor injuries were reported and a woman in her 80s went to hospital as a precaution.”
