A police officer has been taken to hospital after they were assaulted by a 19-year-old man.

Police and ambulance crews attended the scene in Cannon Road, Ramsgate, at about 12pm today.

An officer on patrol had stopped and spoken to the suspect when the attack took place.

The man has since been arrested.

The suspect, who lives in Ramsgate, remains in custody on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker, possessing cannabis, and obstructing a police officer.
