No repair date is in sight after two gaping sinkholes opened up in a road.
Last month, residents in Margate woke up to find a void in the carriageway, which they say had appeared overnight.
The first deep pit formed after a water main burst on the evening of January 26. Southern Water said at the time it was temporarily fixed.
A second small hole opened in St Peter’s footpath near Church Street before also opening up into the road.
Both cavities had been reportedly “growing” quickly ever since leaving residents terrified the whole road could collapse.
At the end of last week, KentOnline contacted Southern Water asking what repairs would be taking place and how this could affect residents who live nearby.
The water company was also asked if the geotechnical engineer had established whether the rest of the road is under threat.
A spokesperson responded with no repair date but said teams were “waiting until the site was safe before accessing the area”.
They added: “We will then be able to concentrate our efforts on the repair of our water main.”
Kent County Council is working alongside Southern Water and says the emergency road closure has been put in place to protect the public.
