Mystery mobile home on Westgate clifftop set to be removed by Thanet District Council

A mobile home that "suddenly appeared" on a clifftop is set to be removed following a lengthy legal fight.

The static caravan, branded a "blot on the landscape" by senior politicians, was dumped on Thanet District Council-owned land next to Westgate Pavilion last May.

The local authority later applied for an injunction to remove the unit in September, which led to the case being heard at Canterbury County Court.

Defendant Sheena Daniels, who is from Westgate, claimed to have purchased the land - but her argument was dismissed as the judge ruled the vehicle had been illegally installed on the plot.

Council leader Ash Ashbee said: "We will prosecute if people are breaking the law.

"The mobile home was a blot on the landscape and we were confident the defendant had no right to put it there.

“We’ll keep a close eye on whether the mobile home is indeed moved within the court mandated time-frame, and we won’t hesitate to pursue a follow up case if not.”

Daniels has been ordered to pay the authority's costs of £4,333.26 and to remove the caravan by April 20.

Cllr Ashbee says the result means "local residents will not be left out of pocket" by the court battle.

In October, KentOnline visited the site and found the vehicle empty, with its doors blocked off with metal fencing.

Speaking at the time, Westgate councillor Bertie Braidwood said: "The static home suddenly appeared on the clifftop adjacent to Sea Road.

"Because this matter is being dealt with through the court, I'm unable to say how long it will be before we are advised of the outcome.

"It is not the solution we all want, but enforcement is taking action."
