Rail delays after multiple trespassers on tracks near Margate ‘trying to climb into Dreamland’ ahead of Chase and Status gig

Rail services have faced delays today after teenagers walked along the tracks as they tried to get into a Dreamland gig without paying.

Two “juveniles” have been arrested after police were called to the scene near Margate earlier this evening.

Power to the railway had to be turned off because the youngsters were stood just six inches from the live rail. Trains were held – but they are now back on the move once again.

One witness said they saw a group of seven teenagers “trying to climb into Dreamland” where Chase and Status have a gig tonight.

British Transport Police have now said: “Two juveniles have been arrested at Margate earlier tonight after reports of them trespassing. It turns out that the two youths wanted to gain access to a Dreamland event without paying and thought it would be a good idea to use the tracks as a means of doing that.

“Officers requested an emergency power off as they were only stood about six inches from the live rail. Both males were arrested and taken back to their homes where interviews have been arranged for a later date. This has caused significant delays to services tonight.

“The railway tracks are not designed to be walked upon and are always live. This dangerous act could have ended differently, these youths are simply quite lucky that Kent Police and us were quickly on scene and able to take quick time measures to ensure their safety!

“Trespassing upon the railway is an offence which is punishable by a fine of up to £1,000. During this summer we urge people to exercise more caution while at stations and pay attention to all notices and Southeastern staff at stations. This is for your own safety!”
