Police name man suspected of assaulting two officers in Margate town centre

A man has been charged after two police officers were assaulted during a town centre fracas.

Officers were called to reports of a disturbance in Margate and a forty-year-old man has now been charged in connection with the incident.

A spokesperson for Kent Police said: “During the afternoon of Sunday 14 January 2024, Kent Police was called to a report of a man causing a disturbance in Cecil Square.

“Town beat officers who were on patrol in the area arrested a man in connection with the report.

Following an investigation by Thanet’s victim based crime team, William Winsbury, 40, of no fixed address, was charged with two counts of assaulting an emergency worker, a public order offence against a police officer, harassment and attempted criminal damage.

The suspect is due to appear before Folkestone Magistrates’ Court today.
