Man's death in fire at flat in St Mildred's Road, Ramsgate, not suspicious

The death of a resident killed in a flat fire in Ramsgate yesterday is not being treated as suspicious, police have confirmed.

The man, who was in his 60s, died after his home in St Mildred's Road caught fire at around 8.15am.

Firefighters discovered him inside the premises when they entered, and although the ambulance service attended, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man's next of kin has been informed and a report is being prepared for the coroner.

Two fire engines remained in the street for more than three hours, as crews wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to put the fire out.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and details of the man's identity haven't yet been released.
