Cowboy roofers 'putting lives in peril'

DOOR-TO-DOOR rougue roofers have put lives in danger in parts of Kent, say Trading Standards officials.

The officials have issued a warning after two elderly residents’ homes in the Thanet area needed emergency attention.

The roofers had lowered the chimney stacks and stopped their boilers venting fumes properly.

Had Transco not come and sorted out the danger, the owners could well have died from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Mark Rolfe, of Trading Standards, said: “We know they have been working in the Thanet area and they are the only ones cold calling.

“If anyone has had them work on anything to do with their central heating they should call Transco.”

The roofers did not leave names anywhere and Trading Standards are gathering evidence to track them down.

Anyone who has seen the roofers or had work done by them should call Trading Standards on 0845 4040506. Transco can be contacted on 0800 111999.
