Andy and Hanna Roost, owners of the business, will be leasing out the ground floor inside the Allen Building in Northwood Road.

The move came about after the college was looking for someone to offer food to students and teachers.

Their site in Ramsgate’s Belmont Road has been theirs for five years, and been a bakery since 1926.

They also run four vans which they drive to remote places such as building sites outside of the town.

“I think where we have cornered the market is with the vans because we take food to people,” Andy Roost said.

“We wanted to grow the van side of things and we are at capacity with them as we have four.

“It is very tricky to load them at our current bakery in Ramsgate but the new premises has lots of parking.”

The husband and wife team say they are really excited to open the new venue and “grabbed the opportunity by the horns”.

“We have not just got a second shop, we also have a new location to move the van side of the business to and the huge function room. It is over 1,200 square feet,” Mr Roost added.

“It is probably one of the biggest in Thanet, it is central and has really great parking.

“We grabbed this opportunity by the horns and rode away with it."

Hanna Roost said the business is completely family run which makes it extra special to them.

“Our children, my niece, sister-in-law, my sister and my mother-in-law – who has now retired – all help out,” she said.

“They are all interested in helping and if it is a family run business everyone wants it to succeed more. It is extra special.”

They added that while the cost-of-living crisis has brought its challenges, but they have continued nevertheless.

“It is not easy, I am not going to lie,” Mrs Roost said.

“Throughout Covid and the cost-of-living crisis, it is a daily struggle.

“We have had to put some of our prices up, some of our suppliers have increased by 100%, it is really not easy.

“We keep plodding on, it’s all you can do and everyone seems really excited about our new bakery.”

Roostys are doing a soft opening on Bank Holiday Monday where they will be open 11am until 2pm.

Free tea and cake will be on offer until it runs out, and there will also be a DJ and a bouncy castle.

The official opening will be at 8am on Tuesday, May 30 at 8am.
