Margate is to host the launch of a long-awaited coastal regeneration handbook that aims to reduce deprivation and improve people's quality of life.

The new book, which suggests new approaches and solutions for the problems faced by seaside towns, will be launched at the national Coastal Resorts Conference at the Winter Gardens on January 27 and 28.

Thanet council plans to use the event to showcase local success stories, with delegates offered a tour of key regeneration sites including the Turner Contemporary, Westwood Cross and the Port of Ramsgate.

The Coastal Communities Alliance (CCA) - a network of more than 40 local authorities and organisations set up after the government rejected recommendations put forward by a select committee inquiry into coastal towns - produced the handbook.

Dr Phyllis Starkey MP, who chaired the 2007 inquiry, will give a keynote speech at the conference.
