Arson arrest over flat fire in Broadstairs

A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a flat was destroyed in a huge fire.

Police have taken a suspect into custody following the blaze in Broadstairs last week.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the fire in Fosters Avenue shortly before 12.30am on Monday, February 13.

A total of seven fire engines and a height vehicle attended, along with Kent Fire and Rescue Services' volunteer response team.

Following a three-and-a-half hour battle, firefighters were able to extinguish the flames using hose reel jets and main jets.

Police also attended the scene, and subsequentlly launched an investigation into the fire, believing the cause could be suspicious.

Shortly afterwards, officers took a 32-year-old man into custody on suspicion of arson.

The suspect, from the Margate area, was later released on bail while investigations continue.
