Sittingbourne manager Nick Davis says four or five wins will make his side safe in Ryman League Division 1 South

Nick Davis is targeting four or five more wins to keep Sittingbourne in Ryman League Division 1 South.

Brickies’ five-match unbeaten run ended with a 1-0 defeat at Swale rivals Faversham last weekend but they remain six points clear of the bottom three.

They are confident of pulling away from trouble, although the 13-game losing streak that briefly put them in the relegation zone last month still bothers manager Davis.

He said: “If we keep playing the way we have been then we’ll win more games than we lose.

“We’re probably four or five wins from being safe but until it’s mathematically done we have to consider ourselves in a relegation battle.

“That losing run we went on is still in the back of my mind.

“We know we shouldn’t be where we are in the league.

“We should be safe in mid-table with the side we’ve got but those defeats put such a dent in us.

Sittingbourne meet play-off hopefuls Whyteleafe at Woodstock on Saturday (3pm), with striker Miles Cornwell starting a three-match ban.

Tuesday night's League Cup quarter-final against Corinthian Casuals was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
