Shane Byrne settled for a pair of third place finishes during round nine of the British Superbike Championship at Cadwell Park.

Byrne was unable to keep up with double race winner Leon Haslam during Sunday’s race day but still holds a commanding lead in the points table.

The Sittingbourne rider had his championship lead slightly shortened by second place man Tom Sykes, but still has an impressive 110 point cushion, and that’s all that counts for the Airwaves Ducati rider.

He said: “We struggled a bit but if struggling means you have to finish third twice then struggling is not so bad.

“We’re still leading the championship and that’s all that matters.”

Byrne’s Ashford-based team-mate Leon Camier took two fourth placed finishes and sits fifth in the riders’ series.

Scott Smart, from Maidstone, ended race one in 13th but went much better in the second race where he took his Kawasaki into eighth.

In the Supersport Championship it was a happy day for Pembury’s James Webb after he claimed a third place podium finish.

The Honda rider was just over a second behind race winner Steve Plater and he also set the fastest lap of the day.
