A teenage boy who posted a Jackass-style video of his friends blowing up homemade 'bombs’ on YouTube has apologised.

Fifteen-year-old Sean, from Sittingbourne, was one of six involved in making the video, branded idiotic by police and fire chiefs.

Sittingbourne crew manager Neil Ryder condemned the boys’ actions after he was alerted by the Sittingbourne Messenger.

The film, which appeared on the internet on Sunday but has since been removed from the site, shows the teenage boys carrying a bomb made out of aerosol cans through the Eden Village estate to woodland in Chalk Pitts.

One of the boys is seen throwing a stone at a can which explodes and another boy kicking a can on fire, which explodes in mid air.

Sean said: “Me and my friends are deeply sorry for everything. We didn’t know what we were doing was going to cause so much of a stir, we were out of anyone’s way, and we thought that nothing bad would happen.

“We have been getting threats and other hateful messages towards us because of this. It wasn’t meant to go this far.

“Our behaviour was unacceptable, and we all know that now.

“The explosions filmed were the only ones we did. A lot of kids go there and blow up things regularly.”

Mr Ryder said: “It’s good to see that they have accepted the error of their ways and have been brave enough to accept that their actions were wrong.

“Everyone who watched their YouTube video should be made aware that a few seconds excitement could be someone else’s life of misery and pain.

“Arson is a crime, not just harmless fun, and deliberate fires are destructive and dangerous - the consequences of such actions can potentially divert valuable resources away from other incidents where lives may be in genuine danger.”

Kent police has decided not to take action against the youngsters, but with firefighters will be meeting with the boys’ parents.

Acting Sgt Jason Hedges, of the Sittingbourne Neighbourhood Team, said: “The actions of those featured in this video are idiotic and irresponsible. Whilst they may think they’re having fun, it’s clear the consequences could have been much more serious. Putting lives at risk is no joke and police take incidents like this very seriously.”
