Worker tried to deal with chemical spill

Spilt chemicals led to a business being evacuated on the Eurolink park in Sittingbourne.

Two pumps from Sittingbourne fire station were called to the FedEx site at 10.20am yesterday along with one pump and an incident support unit from Strood.

It is not clear what chemical was involved but it has been described as smelling similar to a strong anti-freeze and can cause respiratory problems.

One male employee, who tried to deal with the spill, had to be checked over by paramedics following fears he may have been affected by the fumes but he was found to be OK.

Firefighters were at the scene for almost two hours sorting out the spill.
