A town stalwart has been given a top award for his outstanding contribution to the South East in Bloom competition.

And Sittingbourne received a silver gilt award for the second year running for its stunning town centre floral displays.

The awards ceremony was held at the Grand Hotel, Brighton.

Chairman of Sittingbourne in Bloom, Malcolm Moore, received the award for his hard work and enthusiasm over many years.

Dave Shaw, joint co-ordinator of Swale in Bloom, said: “The town did very well to retain its award from last year as this has been a difficult growing season, and the amount of floral displays by Swale Borough Council has had to be reduced owing the present financial climate.

“The award for outstanding achievement was a complete surprise to Malcolm.”

Mr Moore said: “I was thrilled and delighted that our team efforts in Sittingbourne have been recognised by these awards.

“Sittingbourne in Bloom has worked hard over many years to improve the appearance of our town and to involve as much of the community as possible in doing so.”
