Cheran's Bakery, Sittingbourne, opens in Canterbury

A sweet bakery has celebrated its six-month anniversary by opening a second store.

Cheran's Bakery, in Sittingbourne, is now also serving its brownies, blondies and cakes in Sun Street, Canterbury.

Cheran Friedman said: "I can't even believe I'm saying this.

"I have been hiding a big secret the past two weeks, but I’m so excited to say there’s now a Cheran’s Bakery in the beautiful Canterbury High Street."

The 29-year-old opened her business because she loves cooking.

The mum, who also runs a car and bike touch-up paint company, was originally going to open the venture as a click-and-collect service from a unit.

But after proving popular with the people of Swale she opened her new store today.

Canterbury tourist Marie was the first to make a purchase in the university city.

The 50-year-old said: "There is lots of wonderful variety and very imaginative flavours. I will definitely be coming back."

Some of the desserts available include mince pie crumble cookies, Lotus Biscoff blondies and Toblerone cookie pies.

Cheran's Bakery will be open six days a week, 10.30am until 10pm.

Scott, a 49-year-old from Charlton, was also tempted by the sweet treats.

After buying some brownies he said: "The store looks amazing.

"It is a really good idea to expand here, it is bringing some needed regeneration to the area.

"I know some people said the shop wouldn't do too well but Cheran has proved the haters wrong.

"It literally feels like being a kid in a sweet shop, the bakery has a lovely French/European feel to it."

Cheran's Bakery is a few doors down from Canterbury Cathedral.

She said: "I'm feeling so grateful and I can’t wait to serve customers in such a lovely location."
