Sittingbourne's Fulston Manor School opens new English and maths block to students and staff

A new maths and English block is open for business at Fulston Manor School.

The new £3.7million building, which replaces 16 temporary classrooms at the site, opened on Monday.

Funding for phase one of the scheme to transform the town school came from the Department for Education (DfE) with building work starting last February.

A new entrance has now been created as well as 16 new classrooms allowing up to 500 pupils to be taught at any one time, plus office space, a radio room and intervention classroom.

The number of parking spaces has increased from 50 to 64.

Outline planning permission has also been granted for phase two to build a library, 12 classrooms and sixth-form centre.

The school is now applying for the same amount of funding from the DfE for the work to be carried out.

About 40% of students are taught in temporary buildings at the site.

By the end of all the building work, there should not be any temporary classrooms.

Head teacher Alan Brookes said: “These developments signal tremendously
exciting times ahead for the school.

“Let us hope that the same team can not only help us to acquire funding for the next phase but also work with us to produce more 21st century accommodation of a quality that matches all other aspects of the educational provision at Fulston Manor.”
